Vernissage / SAFN
Thursday 19th March – 6pm until 9pm
Celebrate the coming spring with a fresh collaboration from Hreinn Fridfinnsson and Roman Signer at SAFN. When two artists with conceptually rigorous and aesthetically adventurous practices rooted in deep contemplation come together to explore notions of time through investigations of space, place, physics, mathematics and memory, the results practically demand a place on your weekend arts calendar.
SAFN // Levetzowstraße 16, 10555 Berlin
Vernissage / Contemporary Fine Arts
Friday 20th March – 6pm until 8pm
Beginning on Friday the 20th of March, Sachin Kaeley takes over the cavernous Contemporary Fine Arts space with an in situ installation that promises to be both delicate and entrancing, otherworldly and fiercely tactile. The promise of an auditory addition to Kaeley’s unique visual style is all the more reason to drop in and discover just what Kaeley has been cooking up within the hallowed halls of Contemporary Fine Arts.
Contemporary Fine Arts // Am Kupfergraben 10, 10117 Berlin
Vernissage / Galerie Michael Janssen
Friday 20th March – 6pm until 9pm
With a splash of color and a wash of allusion, Emil Holmer takes over Galerie Micahel Janssen for a warm, rich exhibition of beautifully structured canvases that perfectly evoke the promise of a new abstraction for a new century. Harkening back to Rauschenberg’s more avant-garde assemblages and the visual style of Warhol, Holmer’s work manages to perfectly assimilate the rich history of pop into a bold new aesthetic experiment all his own.
Galerie Michael Janssen // Potsdamer Straße 63, 10785 Berlin
Vernissage / Buchmann Galerie
Friday 20th March – 6pm until 9pm
Tony Cragg’s minimal sculptures are both rigorously formal and exuberantly playful. A personal favorite of mine, Cragg never fails to awe and amaze with work that manages to create a sense of sublime wonder and mystery while at the same time offering an intimate, sensuous experience within the space of the white cube.
Buchmann Galerie // Charlottenstraße 13, 10969 Berlin
Vernissage / VW (VeneKlasen/Werner)
Saturday 21st March – 6pm until 9pm
For the legendary Zheng Guogu’s first solo show in Berlin, VW presents sculptures, paintings, photographs and the 20 minute film Mind Acts Without Attachments — a rich body of work exploring diverse stylistic trajectories and intellectual fantasies unified by the underlying theme of the visual narrative. With a contemplative interest in the impact of the media on visual culture and a devotion to traditional Chinese painterly traditions, Gougu’s work bridges divides both cultural and pictorial for a breathtaking exploration of the nature of the image.
