Vernissage & Meeting / Artconnect Berlin presents Community Clash
Thursday 30th January – 7pm
This is community clash – a new bi-monthly event by Neukölln favourites Artconnect, aiming at bringing Berlin’s creative community together for a chinwag and a beer. Each event will present a group show consisting of a handful of artists from Artconnect’s 6,000 plus members, accompanied by live music from musicians also within the Artconnect network. This month will feature five artists including Katrin Hagen aka Mischief Champion, creator of wonderfully whimsical illustrations which resonate with everyone (with a sense of humour, that is).

Book Launch & Talk / berlinerpool
Thursday 20th January – 7pm
Described as ‚openly personal and bravely intimate‘, art book project Girl on Canvas promises to be quite the read. Produced by 30 different authors, it challenges the art of painting and takes a fresh look at the work of Pola Dwurnik. Archive berlinerpool will celebrate the book’s launch this Thursday with a talk with two of the book’s authors.

Vernissage / Grand Opening, Cycle 2: Judith Hopf and Falke Pisano
Friday 31st January – 7pm
After six long months PRAXES finally presents the work of their latest 2 artists in residence, Judith Hopf and Falke Pisano. Whilst Pisano’s work concentrates on the notion of rehearsal and how the various parts of a work series come together, the work of Hopf seems to be more light hearted, the whole of PRAXES‘ upper floor space occupied by her heard of concrete sheep. This tongue in cheek theme continues with Hopf’s video piece, ‚Held Down‘, which is a collaborative number featuring zombies and hip hop which will be played on PRAXES‘ roof terrace at the opening. Forget the snow – this is something we need to see!

Scottish sound artist and Turner prize winner Susan Philipsz will unveil her latest sound installation piece at Hamburger Bahnhof this Friday. Designed specifically for the venue’s historic large hall, formerly a railway station, the piece will work with the architectural structure of the building and incorporate the music of Austrian composer Hanns Eisler.

Festival / transmediale 2014 – afterglow
29th January – Sunday 2nd February
It’s that time of year again for transmediale, the high brow art/tech/culture festival which has the tendency to leave you frowning and puzzled after simply reading the outline of the concepts to be discussed as part of their conferences and screenings. This year the theme is ‚afterglow‘, focussing on the realities of living in a post-digital culture. Expect screenings, conferences, exhibitions and performances during this five day extravaganza.
