Vernissage / Berlin Wonderland: Wild Years Revisited 1990 – 1996
Thursday 5th June – 8pm
Newer residents to the city will no doubt have heard long time Berliners talking about the good old days, how things used to be better and how amazing Berlin used to be. For those of you curious about this recent golden age, upcoming photography exhibition ‚Berlin Wonderland‘ will help illustrate this bygone era. Featuring black and white photographs from a handful of photographers including Berlin documentary photographer and ex-Tacheles resident Ben de Biel, the vernissage follows a previous book launch which accompanies the show.

Vernissage / Grands Ensembles at BOX21
Friday 6th June – 6 until 9pm
Berlin is an amazing place for unusual art spaces. From a converted war bunker to a crematorium and a disused swimming pool, no venue is too outlandish to be converted into a unique art place and BOX21 is no different. A converted stable in Friedrichshain once used by Otto Pohl (or the ‚Coach King of Berlin‘ to you and me), the space will open this Friday with a show by Pola Sieverding focussing on two video pieces exploring two very different housing estates in Europe; one in Lisbon currently being developed and one in Berlin.

Vernissage / Ina Schoenenburg: FLASHBACK
Friday 6th June – 7pm
One topic which is always in the news and in our peripheral vision, sadly, is war. The lives of the very people put on the line during conflicts though, that of the soldiers, are often not considered. Hundreds of thousands of people’s lives are permanently altered, scarred with no recognition, and this is the topic German photographer Ina Schoenenburg addresses in her latest show ‚Flashback‘. Over one year the artist documented the lives of four soldiers suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, observing them in their natural environments, domestic, social and everyday to give us a glimpse into their world. The result: a collection of hauntingly beautiful narratives which encourage the viewer to stop and consider the struggle of others.

Charity Auction & Austellung / Little Dudes Mission 2
Friday 6th June – Doors open 7pm, charity auction begins 9:30pm
The Little Dudes mission is back! A wonderful initiative created by Berlin based graphic designer Alexis Bainger, Little Dudes is a concept which allows creatives to take part in a project which helps raise money for three different charities (Charity:Water, Action Against Hunger and International Fund for Animal Welfare). The idea is simple: creatives apply to make a dude, look at the initial template provided and bring their dude to life however they see fit. The dudes are then reunited at a charity auction in Berlin, where all proceeds raised are split between the three charities. Last year 100 little dudes were submitted from over 25 countries, and we can’t wait to see the new little dudes that have been created for this year’s mission. Prices start at extremely affordable rates (around €5) so go along and get bidding!

Vernissage / Vinculo
Friday 6th June – 6pm
Bonds. Some are meant to be ever binding but often end up deteriorating, and others which initally seem tenuous can last a lifetime. This notion of a bond, full of connections, contradictions and different tensions is explored in the show ‚Vinculo‘ (the Spanish word for bond)by Argentinian based artist Franco Fasoli or ‚FAZ‘. From June 6th FAZ’s paintings exploring the tensions of ambivalnce will be on display at BC Gallery, created specifically for the space. For an idea of what to expect you can see the artist in action completing a spontaneous wall painting here.
