Vernissage / The Wye Presents: Four Solo Shows
Thursday 7th August – 7pm
This week the Wye Platform Gallery will join forces with Kunstquartier Bethanien to present a satellite exhibition of not one but four international artists. These include German artist Hannah Hellerman, who through her minimal piece ‘Godspeed’ will explore meditations on restrictions and self inflicted boundaries, and also German collective ATB, who will be tackling abstraction and surrealism through more playful means.

Vernissage / 10 at Berghain
Thursday 7th August – 7pm (Tickets €5)
Beloved Berlin nightspot and institution Berghain will soon be celebrating its tenth birthday, cueing a mass of celebrations. Kicking off the festivities is an art exhibition for the occasion happening this Thursday entitled ’10’ featuring the work of ten artists closely connected with the club, including the ubiquitous Sven himself. Housed in the other ‘unused’ half of the concrete sprawling mass which is Berghain, the exhibition will feature photography, installation work, painting and more. Will the usual door policy be implemented? No, but from the number of people already attending on Facebook (over 5k) it’s questionable if you’ll get in on the opening night.

Vernissage/ My Paper Sunglasses at SomoS
Thursday 7th August – 7pm
In case you didn’t have enough options for Thursday evening the much hyped ‘My Paper Sunglasses’ exhibition by creative director Otávio Santiago will open in Berlin after four stops across the globe. After asking artists in his current home of Berlin and original home of Brazil to express their artistic perspective using cutout paper sunglasses, Santiago will present his finding along with a performance and editorial fashion spread inspired by the project. A silent auction will also run throughout the duration of the exhibition in order to support SomoS art house, selling off the sunglasses at a special finissage.

Vernissage / ‘Party Hard’ by Nicola Napoli
Friday 8th August – 8pm
Continuing with the Berghain theme, this Friday marks the first Berlin solo show of Nicola Napoli, an Italian visual designer who gained exposure in Berlin thanks to his illustration ‘Die Schlange’ depicting your typical weekend Berghain queue consisting of hipsters, Disney characters and mythical creatures. In the wonderful revelry of Berlin nightlife, where reality ends and where it begins is no longer relevant, and the only caveat is to keep on dancing and party hard – a concept Napoli explores through whimsical illustration and design almost reminiscent of Hieronymus Bosch.
