Edmond Gallery // Lines of Unthought

Prepare yourself to observe the hand’s gesture, the movement and the flow of the lines. That is the idea of the exhibition “Lines of Unthought”, which presents works on paper from Mélanie Delattre-Vogt, Song Kun, Alex Tennigkeit and Emeli Theander. The artists universes will bring you to a world of bodybuilding doppelgänger, cyborg self-portrait, allegorical combinations of female and animal motifs, and strange botanical plates with delicate foliages. Here, the most important thing is not the subject or the meaning of the drawings, but their conception and technique.

Vétomat // Musterung

Give yourself a moment of colour in October. You deserve it! The illustrator Mister Fred presents at his first solo show “Musterung” 150 works produced between 2015 and 2017. What the visitor will see at the art collective Vétomat is a full decorated space, meaning wall, windows and floors covered with Fred’s colorful illustrations. During the period of the exhibition, concerts, workshops and others activities will happen simultaneously. The program is available on vetomat.net.

SomoS Art House // Songs from Misanthropolis
6th October – 14th October 2017
Misanthropolis: an imaginary place that could be part of Roy Andersson’s film “Songs from The Second floor” (2000) or of “Metropolis“ (1927) from Fritz Lang. And for the Danish visual artist Aske A. Hvidtfeldt, this surrealist location was the starting point to produce the large scale works on paper showcased at SomoS – the biggest is 150 cm x 200 cm. His delicate drawings will make you think about Magritte and Hitchcock, and ignite discussions about humanity and technology, freedom and democracy, the self and community. Besides the drawings, Hvidtfeldt also creates costumes, film, sculpture and music.

Kunstquartier Bethanien // Polenbegeisterungswelle: Cultural Topographies of Polish Berlin

Exhibitions, studio visits with artist talks, meetings in galleries, expert panels, live performances and activities in public spaces are planned for the „Polenbegeisterungswelle“. The title refers to demonstrations of sympathy that Polish insurgents received in German-speaking countries after their defeat in the so-called November Uprising of 1830. Today, the event emphasizes the perception process of „Polish culture“, considering the country of origin principle, still dominant in institutional contexts, and other descriptions of urbanity, rhythms, cycles, neighborhood, passions, flows and encodings. Works of different generations of Polish artists were selected by the curators Jagna Anderson PhD, Iwona Bigos, Berenika Partum and will be showcased mainly at Studio 1, but also in other art spaces around the city. The British artist Lucy Skaer presents her combinations of sculpture, film and print mixing new and existing works from the last ten years at her first solo exhibition in Berlin. For KW, the artist continues her examination of objects and production methods in critical exchange with art historical motives and references. She reworked her existing sculptures to become representations of animals in an hunting scenery, an allusion to “Livre de chasse”, a medieval book with miniature illuminations on Renaissance hunting techniques from 1331-1391. Here, the concept is to explore the mutable meaning of these works and make critiques about their status as definitive art works and their potential for self-reproduction. In February 2018, the exhibition will be also showcased at Salzburger Kunstverein.
