Your Easter art weekend in Berlin

Berlin’s top art events for Easter in Berlin (April 16th – 19th 2014): Olympus Photography Playground, The magic of festivals, Scheitern Magazine Release Party.

Magazine Launch / Scheitern Magazine Release Party

Wednesday 16th April – 8pm

“Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.” was the advice of Irish icon Mr. Beckett. A few decades on and of course failure is still a major motif when it comes to creating work in almost any field, the bid to better one’s previous efforts a major driving force. The theme of not only failure but tragic failure will be explored in the launch of new German magazine Scheitern, which will unite writers, journalists and artists under this broad topic. The release party will be held at Bar Barbette and include a reading and concert, as well as a limited number of printed copies of the magazine for sale.

Bar Barbette // Karl-Marx-Allee 36, 10178 Berlin

Book Launch & Concert / Amir Fattal

Wednesday 16th April – 6 until 10pm

If you’re looking for something a little more cultured than your usual bar gossip session this Wednesday evening then head over to Kunstquartier Bethanien, where young Israeli conceptual artist Amir Fattal will present a book embodying his artistic works thus far, complete with essays by art heavyweights such as Dr. Heinz Stahlhut, curator of Berlinische Galerie. To celebrate the launch a performance by Fattal entitled ‚From the End to the Beginning – Wagner Reversed‘, a mirroring (or playing in reverse) of Richard Wagner’s Vorspiel und Liebestod from the opera Tristan and Isolde, will be performed by the Berlin based Zafraan Ensemble.

Kunstquartier Bethanien // Mariannenplatz 2, 10997 Berlin

Opening / the magic of festivals

Thursday 18th April – 8pm

As the first real feelings of summer start to creep across the Berlin skyline, multidisciplinary artist group SYC, a collective of friends which “creates special places for you”, will attempt to capture the magic of the festival season with their first ever group exhibition, ‚Some Youthless Content‘. Typically specialising in imaginative landscapes fashioned out of all sorts of materials such as wood and iridescnt projections, the group enjoys exploring the experience of feeling liberated, something common in the lazy haze of summer and the plethora of festivals it has to offer. Embrace the Easter festival with this ecclectic opening, complete with concert and performance.

Lehrter Siebzehn Project Space // Lehrterstraße 17, 10557 Berlin

Austellung / Olympus Photography Playground

Open until 25th May 2014

Many will be happy to learn that the Olympus Photography Playground is back for another year after it’s hugely successful debut in 2013. Brainchild of the Olympus camera brand, the huge warehouse has once again been transformed by a number of international artists into a magical environment to explore, create and of course, take amazing photographs. Running until May 25th, the playground will also feature a number of free workshops on photography including subjects such as light painting. Prepare to capture that decisive moment!
