Vernissage / Nik Nowak ‚Echo‘ at Berlinische Galerie

Winner of the GASAG Art Prize, Nik Nowak will this week unveil his sound installation piece ‚Echo‘ at Berlinische Galerie, earning the label of the largest sound installation presented in the space thus far. Exploring one of Nowak’s ongoing themes of technology, ‚Echo‘ is an interactive show including autonomous robot drones which aims to make viewers question the implications of new technologies, perhaps particularly relevant given the current ‚Heartbleed‘ internet crisis. There will also be an exclusive perfromance on the opening night at 9pm.

Vernissage / Milena Jovićević at ReTramp

A two part show in conjunction with Das Gift, ‚Don’t Be Afraid‘ will present the work of Milena Jovićević as she explores the problems of gender ratio through quirky drawings and animations, even recreating her own take on the book of Adam and Eve in her gender journey. Finissage / ‚Rendez-Vous: Sortie de Mon Corps‘ at SAVVY Contemporary

Neukölln gallery favourite SAVVY Contemporary will celebrate the last day of their current group exhibition, ‚Rendez-Vous: Sortie de Mon Corps‘ this Saturday. An attempt to view and experience the chronicles of the west through our contemporary eyes and bodies, the show imagines the body in a new way, a multiple body containing history and “on which history is inscribed.” Following a talk with exhibiting artist Hiwa K and curator Olivier Marboeuf at the finissage around 9pm, there will also be a celebration with music to follow.

Few will have forgotten the chilling tale of Canadian porn actor and alleged cannibal killer Luke Magnota. Arrested in June 2012 in an internet cafe in Neukölln, Magnota is believed to have recorded the killing and dismemberment of his former lover before mailing his body parts to schools and government parties in Canada. MEAT, part of this year’s Festival of International New Drama, attempts to explore the mindset of Magnota, recreating some of his daily environments in this ongoing 240 hour performance installation inhabited by 60 performers. Parts of the performance will be streamed online throughout, but needless to say this is likely to be a macabre affair.
