Talks, films, panels & more / Haus der Kulturen der Welt
Thursday 20th February – 7pm
War has never been an easy topic to narrate. In his infamous title Slaughterhouse Five, Kurt Vonnegut even writes, “Do you know what I say to people when I hear they’re writing anti-war books? . . . I say, ‚Why don’t you write an anti-glacier book instead?’” such are the apparent tendencies of human nature. In their latest event, HKW presents a forum discussing the indescribable, the horrors of war we are both accustomed to and at the same time hideously ignorant of. Focusing on present issues such as the wars in the Middle East, in the Gaza strip and in Syria, a large group of artists will come together for two days to discuss the topic of narrating war through panels, one on one discussions and more.

Arty party / Gender Blender Porn Party with Pornceptual
Friday 21st February – 11:30 pm
Let’s talk about gender baby, that old chestnut which is meant to define so much of who we are and how we are viewed by the rest of society. Whereas some countries (yes Germany, take a bow) are paving the way on the topic, for example introducing the possibility of classifying a newborn baby with both sets of genitals as “indeterminate sex”, other countries are much more draconian in their prescribed gender laws, enforcing them strictly from birth. Whatever your preferred gender, leave your prejudices at the door with the latest Pornceptual Party, organised by Berlin based photographer Chris Phillips.

Opening & Talk / Sister Corita at Circle Culture Gallery
Saturday 22nd February – talk with curators at 5 pm / Opening 7 until 10pm
A full time, catholic nun turns into full time, adored pop artist – it sounds like the prerequisite of a great movie, but is in fact simply a description of the life of Sister Corita. After seeking dispensation from her vows, Sister Corita moved to Boston and then LA, where she produced a wealth of screen printed pop pieces for over thirty years. This retrospective, ‚Let The Sun Shine In‘ focuses on the work she created during this time, taking her inspiration from a broad range of sources, from the scriptures to The Beatles. There will also be a talk with the great curators Aaron Rose and Sasha Carrera about her life at 5 pm. Don`t miss that one,

Opening & Pop up shop / Jonathan Meese & Front Row at CFA
Saturday 22nd February – 10am until 6pm
Renowned German artist Jonathan Meese is back with his latest offering at CFA, ‚Johnny Come Home‘, a display of his work from 2006, considered by some as a year of his artistic peak. Moving on from his seminal work ‚Ahoi de Angst‘, the pieces presented reveal a glimpse into Meese’s unique perspective, one which firmly believes artists are there to serve, not simply indulge in self expression. Also opening at CFA this Saturday will be the show ‚Front Row‘, a celebration of all the past exhibition paraphernalia the gallery has collected over time, including artists books, vinyl, exhibition catalgues and rarities such as artist’s long lost fanzines.

Vernissage & Video Installation / Group Show at KW
Saturday 22nd February – 5 until 10pm
We’ve all experinced it – a film which has left you stone cold and sobered, or light as a feather and joyous, exultant. The power of films to convey and alter human emotion is explored in the group show ‚Real Emotions: Thinking in Film‘, opening this Saturday. On a lighter note, the same evening will also play host to the opening of a two screen video installation by Nicole Miller, entitled ‚DAGGERING‘ – you know, that classic Carribean dance style.
