Import Projects / Finissage: The Possibility of an Island
Friday 26th July – 6pm
As we all know: “No man is an island, Entire of itself”. This doesn’t stop us exploring the notion of the island figure as a symbol of utopia or various other possibilities though, on the contrary. Import Projects latest exhibition documents this fascination with islands with a group show including numerous videos on the topic. Take this opportunity to visit the exhibition on it’s closing night for a series of film screenings and curators talk.

AJLart / Opening: And Now We Come All Hot Pursuit
Friday 26th July – 6pm
‚And Now We Come All Hot Pursuit‘ is the rather elusive, racy title of Berlin painter Will Kempke’s latest solo exhibition at AJLart – a Berlin based gallery that is using temporary spaces to install their artists and exhibitions. Referring to the way in which Western society’s media treats coverage of the current war and issues in Afghanistan, the exhibition will be made up of 8 oil paintings. Kempkes also explores the way in which such issues have been translated into contemporary video games, a world of fantasy maybe a little too close to home.
AJLart at Forum Factory // Besselstraße 13-14, 10969 Berlin
Griessmühle / Kiez Kupala Open Air & Opera
Friday 26th July – 7pm
If the thought of viewing artwork, partying or generally doing anything inside isn’t appealing in the current glorious weather then we have the solution – Kiez Kupala Open Air. This kupala (apparently an old pagan celebration of life love, sexuality and escapsim) will be held at riverside location Griessmühle and include a full opera as well as live art, live music, burlesque and body painting. Our advice: dust off your best tail feathers.

Atelierhof Kreuzberg / MOLT! Speculative Identities – Screening
Saturday 27th July – 7pm
Speculative identity: a hot topic in our hyper digital age where we’re required to not merely meet and interact with people in real life but on a range of other levels too. International art collective Zona Dynamic will explore this issue and other layers of modern human identity in their latest art happening this weekend at Atelierhof Kreuzberg, which will feature works from over 40 international artists and include performances, screenings, talks, installations and of course, a great opening party on Friday night. Don’t miss Saturday’s “ Cultural Identity in Video Art” screening and talk.

„Kunst braucht Fläche“ – Live Painting Event
Saturday 27th July – 12pm
‚Kunst braucht Fläche‘ – art needs space, and where better to get it than on one of the many unusual urban surfaces Berlin has to offer. Starting this weekend and running until August 11th, AV Tour GmbH present a programme where young artists transform the city’s billboards using any medium they wish. We’re particularly excited to see the work of painter/sculptor Winston Torr, who will be working on a triptych on one of his signature newspaper collage backgrounds.
