On a sun sparkling afternoon in Berlin, Arthur de Ganay invited us on a private tour at his private photography collection in Kreuzberg. We met Thomas Ruff, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Candida Höfer in an old jelly factory facing the Spree River.

Arthur de Ganay: Private Photography Collection

Arthur de Ganay, an architect who is hardly older than us, left Paris at the beginning of 2001 to start an art driven life in Berlin. At this time in his life, he was already collecting the art of the Japanese photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto and was strongly addicted to large sized architecture and nature photography. It was in Berlin, where he would find an old abandoned jelly factory facing the Spree river. As all Berlin people will know, there aren’t so many riversided buildings in Berlin, and so he decided to consider this location as the chance which would never come back again to create a home for himself and his art collection. Arthur de Ganay 10 years later, on the already mentioned Saturday afternoon, we climb the stairs to his two appartments. One for him and his wife and the other for the ouevres of Thomas Ruff, Candida Höfer, Elger Esser and all the other big names you would think of if someone says „art photography“. I was especially excited to meet some of my favorite photographers which I had seen some days ago at Frieze Art Fair in London. What happened on this afternoon, we will show you as soon as we got the video cut which we did here for you. Have a wonderful weekend! Mehr zu Sammler in Berlin
